Water Contamination On Military Bases Isn’t New. And That’s A Problem By Anita Hofschneider On Thursday, the Navy confirmed that water in its Red Hill well had been contaminated with petroleum products based on tests of samples sent to a mainland lab earlier this week. The news came after days of military families in communities near Pearl Harbor reporting the smell of fuel in their tap water. But this isn’t the first time the military has been responsible for water pollution in the U.S. The scope and causes of the pollution have varied, but the problem has affected communities from Guam to North Carolina, with mixed responses from federal officials. Much is still unknown about the petroleum pollution on Oahu, but the public is demanding answers. Full Story
