And there are people who ‘want’ to be conned in order to get what they want and they ‘pretend’ to be fooled.

§ One Response to Coming from a corrupt country is it a defense that you think corruption is ‘normal’?

  • SteveLaudig says:

““Mrs. Zhao has come to realize she has been misled, her generosity has been taken advantage of, and her daughter has fallen victim to the scam,” read a statement released Thursday by Vincent W. C. Law, a Hong Kong attorney who said he represents the mother.”

I wonder if ‘her generosity’ operates the same way in either Hong Kong or the PRC in terms of large payments to obtain desired results… But I suppose if you come from a culture that tolerates ‘hong bao’ you expect other cultures to tolerate ‘hong bao’. It stretches my ability to imagine Mrs. Zhao didn’t know, or have a suspicion, that this payment wasn’t on the up and up. But if you are getting what you want and can afford the price, why ask questions, why make due diligence inquiries. If you don’t ask then you can pretend to have been the ‘victim of a scam’..
