An explosion last May at a Foxconn factory in Chengdu, China, killed four people and injured 18. It built iPads.
A Punishing System
When workers in the cafeteria ran outside, they saw black smoke pouring from shattered windows. It came from the area where employees polished thousands of iPadcases a day.
Two people were killed immediately, and over a dozen others hurt. As the injured were rushed into ambulances, one in particular stood out. His features had been smeared by the blast, scrubbed by heat and violence until a mat of red and black had replaced his mouth and nose…..”

A recent email from “my friend” the current President. He doesn’t ask for money but rather that I join in wishing FLOTUS happy birthday. Okay, “Happy Birthday FLOTUS”. It begins “Friend –…. [and ends] P.S. — This weekend, people are getting together to volunteer in their communities in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day…“
I am wondering what MLK’s position would be regarding POTUS and Guantanamo; and, murder-by-drone of U.S. nationals. I suspect MLK wouldn’t support either.
This POTUS seems to have found a way to make the U.S. feel good about the losing wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, along the lines of the Nixer and Vietnam. This POTUS gives “good speech” that’s for sure. But little else.
